The Orientation Center has been established in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago to house a diverse range of projects, meeting and office space, an artist residency, a library and several regular community meals and lectures. The two story storefront is housed in the historic Congress Theater, where concerts, wrestling and balls attract diverse communities from throughout the city. In addition to several temporary projects and organizations, the Orientation Center space is anchored by three local cultural organizations who use it as their home-base and offices: AREA Chicago (a magazine and events series about culture and politics in Chicago); the Chicago Underground Library (an eclectic city-specific library of publications and zines made by Chicagoans); and InCUBATE (a research group and artist residency program dedicated to exploring new approaches to arts administration and arts funding).
If you are interested in getting involved in the space please visit the Chicago Underground Library any Saturday from 1-5pm or come by on the first Sunday of the month to InCubate’s Sunday Soup and Brunch. Starting in March, you can also check out one of the Thursday lectures organized by the groups housed at the Orientation Center. If you are interested in using the space during M-F daytime for office space; using the space weeknights for meetings with your group; or renting the storefront for a special event then please get in touch with orientationcenter@gmail.com for more information on our rates.
